SlideShare –  You Don’t Use It Because You Don’t Know It

(if you knew the power of SlideShare you would be all in…)

By Shane Byers

I am about to share a well kept secret with you.  But before I do I want you to know I am not connected with SlideShare in any way but I do believe you need to use this platform to grow your business.

So, based on the following facts – maybe this isn’t such a secret – check out these facts:

  • Over 70 million people (professionals) use the SlideShare platform every month – Wow, just that alone is impressive
  • A potential audience of 70 million viewers
  • Over 70% of SlideShare traffic comes from targeted searches by users looking for exact content like yours – this puts you right in front of your target audience
  • SlideShare gets 5X more professional users than any other social platform.
  • Over 18 million presentations are on the platform
  • Over 15 million page views per month
  • One of the Top 100 most visited websites in the world

Do you see the possibilities?  SlideShare is there for you to use to market your business, your lead magnet, your online course or any other digital content.  You can even have your own SlideShare channel.

This is how you do it…

  1. Create your SlideShare presentation (drag and drop a PDF version of your presentation into their online editor). It’s easy but I’m not going to give you a graphic design lesson here
  2. Upload your new presentation to the SlideShare platform where those 70 million visitors can search for and find your content
  3. Your prospects/visitors simply page thru your SlideShare presentation one slide at a time reading your content and learning about your business… and you insert your “call to action” slides in several places throughout the presentation

Call to Action Example:

If I were to convert this TopTenPercenter Sales Training Article into a SlideShare (which would be very, very easy) then right about here I would insert a slide with the following information on it:

MORE TIPS:

  1. At the end of the SlideShare you give your prospects/visitors a way to download something – You give them a link to some valuable content in exchange for their email address and they become your next new lead (and this is typically a very good lead if they are looking for your content)
  2. Tip: Include all relevant clickable Social sharing links somewhere in your presentation (e.g., on your call to action slides) so you visitors can share your SlideShare with their colleagues
  3. Tip: Your Title and Description (entered into the admin section of your SlideShare account) should be keyword rich so that the right audience can find you via searches
  4. Tip: Put your Twitter handle at the end of your Title so when people share your presentation you will be notified on Twitter (and your name gets out there one more time)
  5. By the way SlideShare can be used effectively on a free basis – although you can also pay to capture traffic similar to the way you pay for Facebook leads
  6. Tip: Put a link in your Description back to your blog post or other lead magnet in bit.ly form
  7. Add Tags to your SlideShare (in the admin section) using both single and long tail keywords – this helps in both Google searches and SlideShare searches
  8. SlideShare automatically generates a transcript of all the text in your presentation too – this helps you in Google searches too
  9. Tip: Start to “like and comment” (similar to other Social media platforms) on other SlideShare presentations of other people in your sphere of expertise – your name will start to show up in those places and help to drive traffic back to your presentation
  10. Tip: Share your SlideShare on all of your Social Media Networks – Twitter, Linkedin, etc.
  11. Tip: Expand your reach by embedding your SlideShare presentation in your blog, your website, Linkedin posts, etc.

Do I have you thinking?  I hope so.  The lifeblood of your business is a consistent flow of new leads.  SlideShare can help you generate those leads.

Again, here is another example of how to build a good SlideShare:  Your last slide should ALWAYS be a call to action.
